Right, the injectors work fine without the plastic tip, but I SUSPECT 
that the tip offers some thermal protection for the heat soak after 
shutdown, so I like to keep them in place.

You can reuse injector seals many times. I squeeze the rings in my 
fingers. if they are too hard to squeeze together or if they break, 
then I replace them. Otherwise I reuse them.

I use peanut butter jars, because they are plastic and unbreakable. 
The kerosene doesn't seem to touch this plastic.

Diesel will probably work fine, but I found kerosene in 1 and 2.5 
gallon jugs at the local Menards (lumber/hardware/etc) store. Home 
Despot might be another place to look. It may be sold as lamp oil, 
but for a lot more money.
