If the wipers work now, then those are probably the right wires on
them. The relay wires are different.

This is going to be difficult to describe; it's really best if you
can find another car (any year FI) to look at.

The relay has 5 terrminals.

2 terminals on one side have their blades aligned in line. These are
the coil (control) terminals. The 2 wires for those should be in a
single translucent white connector which pushes onto that relay.
Those 2 wires are (grey) and (blue w/yellow stripe.)

Of the other 3 terminals, one is a single terminal. That terminal
gets a red wire from the fuse box. It should come from the fused side
of the fuse that serves ONLY the FI fuel pump.

The last 2 terminals are a doubled up terminal. In other words, they
are a single piece of brass bent into a U shape so they are
electrically the same. There should be a red wire on one of those
terminals that joins a brown wire and then they both go out thru a
grommed in the firewall and to the fuel pump. If your car is a 70 or
later AT, then another red wire connects to the second terminal here
and runs back to the electrically heated AT aux air regulator on the
engine. The wire for this function is also present in MT cars, but
was cut off at the factory back at the engine end.

I can rebuild the MC for you, and I have good used pedal assemblies
here. The pedal assemblies changed a few times, so it will depend on
your year. Beetle pedals were also the same, but you still have to
make sure you get the right one.

I have sometimes knocked out the retaining pins in the pedal
assemblies and taken them completely apart. If you do this, you can
also drill some holes and install a Zerk fitting to allow for future
lubrication.
