Right- my Passat's pump is a submerged pump with the suction on one end
and the discharge at the other. It's obvious upon cutting it open that
it works this way. Most of the deposits I found on the fuel filter when
I gut it upen were the powdered remains of the brushes. The cutaways
I've seen of the Type 3 pump didn't seem obvious that they'd have fuel
running through it.
