...went out and looked at my current Ghia, a '62 from the first few
months of production. The pans are there but without drain tubes, so
maybe water collection wasn't their original purpose. They wouldn't be
effective for windshield leaks anyway because they're positioned well
forward of the windshield...Whatever their purpose, they must have been observed to collect
enough water for drain tubes to be needed.
