Nice clean slightly rough metal takes a surfacing tissue or light-weight glass-fibre cloth and resin rather well - copes with compound curves no probs and bridges holes. Larger holes need the woven cloth. If you're worried about weight, some carbon-fibre from John would be good! It might not be as easy to sand to a smooth surface; depends on how visible the repair can remain without you worrying. Dave.
