Re: [T3] TIV oil cooler replacing the TIII unit
<x-flowed>TobyE=> do you have any pictures of the modified tin?
I've sent a pic to Toby, who's free to post it somewhere. I don't have a
Website.
=> Care to explain what you did to make it work?
In concept it's pretty simple in the course of a rebuild, and I expect
you could go at it with the engine in the car if you're dogged about it.
It amounts to doing some careful measuring of the Type 4 cooler relative
to stock to determine the clearance you'll need, slicing off the top of
the tin and replacing it with a fabricated cap, all welded together nice
(and in my case powdercoating it to match the rest of the tin), and
install.
It fits fine underneath the stock air cleaner, there are no interference
issues at all. No doubt, since it's bigger, it steals a little more
cooling air on the left side. I can't speak to that other than to say
since it's been on the motor the oil temp at the sump has never gone
above about 195F. Previously on the same sensor I'd see readings over
230 on a hot run.
