[T3] seattle weekend

well, the purple notch and i did a 900 mile weekend trip. up to seattle and back from roseburg, or. car got 34 MPG doing 70 mph, so i decided i should enrich the idle circuit a touch. i was able to stay with Toby on sunday evening (planned) and i am glad i did. i hit the offramp to his house and started hearing that wonderful metal on metal sound in the engine bay. got to toby's and accessed that the fan shroud and outter fan body were rubbing. so, monday myself, toby and bella started the disassembly process of the shroud area. what did we find? the inner half of the housing only had 1 of the 5 bolts holding it in place!!!! gotta love GEX, N O T! so, we added the missing hardware, buttoned it up and on the road i went. i finished the trip from portland to roseburg at a pretty steady 75 and with the enriched idle circuit and stinking head wind, i was down to a 28mpg. but, the oil light never even flickered leaving the freeway after 2 hours of 3500 rpm. this is t!
he hardest sustained run i have ever put on this engine.

The GEX assembly process leaves much to be desired, but this engine combo has proved to be almost bulletproof in lay out.

74x90.5 w/110 cam, 40 webers, 1 3/8 exhaust, internal full flow oil filter in the sump, and early 041 heads (39x32 valves). The only change i would make to the lay out is either worked stock heads or later 041s that were 40x35.5 valves, as i believe the heads would run cooler.

So, if you want a cruiser more than a bruiser, but need some extra pop for hill climbing, merging into traffic and such, this is a great combo!
