You should be able to just rough it up a bit and tap it back in with a little red loctite.
The most common reason these come out is that people push the fuel hose
all the way in the brass fitting so that it is up tight against the
carb body and the tighten down the hose clamp. The problem comes when
the engine compartment heats up. The bit of rubber hose between the
clamp and the carb body expands and tries to push the brass fitting out
of the carb. Repeat this enough time and through in the vibration of
the engine and the fitting comes loose.
To prevent it just leave an 1/8" or so of the brass fitting exposed between the end of the hose and the carb body when you tighten down the hose clamp.
John? Have you been reading old VW Tech bulletins?? ;=}
