<x-flowed>I don't think what I did on my car was especially difficult; almost all of the time was spent waiting for parts to arrive. Actually doing the work didn't really take all that long.

I think having seen what the earliest parts were like, I would not attempt to do the same job on a very early car with the engine installed.

It makes for a very tight fit and it all has to go on just so in a certain order. Its a real PITA to atempt a tear down like you just went through. It would be much easier and quicker to pull the motor and do it on the ground. I would assume this is why it was all changed by mid 63 to help the mechanics do a quicker job to the little things.

Hang on, maybe I'm being a bit slow here, but that means that every time you wanted to take off the tin, you had to take off the fanshroud too, right? No wonder they changed it.
