Hey All.....I just went thru the Bentley method of setting the timing on my '72....dwell is perfect...everything seems ok, except that in order to achieve a normal idle speed of 850, the speed adjusting screw is 1/4 turn away from being turned in all the way to bottoming.... When I pull and plug the 2 vacuum lines to the dist.to set the timing, the speed rises a bit....high enough so that I cannot use the speed screw to get it back down to 850.....it only goes down to about 950, so that is where I have the 5 degree set at.......I would think that I should be able to turn the speed screw in enough to stall the motor, but it doesn't.....(btw, new plugs, new injectors and seals, points, condenser...and I reset the TVS). What conditions would make the idle not want to come down to spec.? the only thing I didn't do was have the air cleaner in place, because I'm just running it in the garage right now.....would that matter? Also, this is a replacement engine block that starts with a "U", but I still should set the timing as a original block at 5 degrees because I'm using all the electronic components from the original '72 engine (intake, TVS, 2 hose distributor, brain), correct?
