I've been having problems keeping my Squareback running well lately. Although I'd given it a full tuneup just a few weeks ago I started to check the valves this afternoon. #1 was ok but the intake valve for #2 was so tight as to be not adjustable. Even with the screw backed all the way out the valve was still hitting the rocker. I assume that this means that either the valve is streching or the valve seat is failing in some fashion. Ok, so I have to replace that head. I have a few questions though. How long can I expect to drive it like this before it fails? This is my daily driver. Can I baby it and get away with driving back and forth to work for the couple of weeks it will take for me to get the parts together? My trip to work is 15 miles each way. 12 miles of that is highway. If I can keep driving it for a little while my plan is to send a pair of T3 heads to RIMCO and have them done right. The heads that are on there now are locally rebuilt beetle heads. I installed them in Sept of '03. That's probably the least use I've had out of a set of rebuilt heads in 27 years of driving aircooled VWs. Well, that's my current head-ache (pun intended) ;) Martin Garramone Austin, Texas 1968 Squareback 1968 Westfalia ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
