I didn't over-tighten it. It was the switch assembly itself. And the icons on the stalk were sorta scratched, like it was a used unit. On the one I do have, there's some sort of blister on the underside of the stalk. I think it's metal flashing as it doesn't break apart like a paint bubble would.

I'm just tired of sub-standard parts and work. It's all about quantity, not quality, for US resellers :-(

As for your tight T/S switch, even VW had shims in some of them from the
factory. Very thin shim washers that went in to spread the housing when
you tightened the screw. BTW, don't tighten them so tight.
