Re: [T3] Steering electrical questions (was: Is this the list email address?)

<x-flowed>For the turn signal issue:
What would be the necessary steps to convert the one-year-only '71 to the more common pre-'71 or '72-'73 assemblies?

I'm thinking long-term here where turn signals, wiper/washer and associated parts will be easier to get.
- First example: My kick-down switch was broken when I bought my Lightsider so I replaced it with a used switch. After a thousand miles or so that switch broke (same location!). I'm now using a modern micro-switch I had to custom mount. Lesson: Used parts aren't always a solution.
- Second example: Replaced the original turn signal switch mechanism on the Lightsider as it would not self-cancel. A few weeks later the replacement breaks! I returned it (manufacturer's defect) for another one and that one was too tight, it wouldn't self-cancel. I returned it for another unit and -- fingers crossed -- it's working fine. Lesson: Reproduction parts are generally not as well made as the originals (especially in the after-market...TMI thread ;-) ).

Money is always an issue and time pulls a close second but thinking ahead can save you both in the long run.
