The American system is different from ours and the numbers here are higher. I don't know exactly how much higher.

I never considered the compression ratio. Is it likely that some past engine work could have raised it, thereby raising the octane requirement of my engine?


If someone did a top-end rebuild, it's definitely possible. I only use US 93 in my Squareback after I did the rebuild because I didn't want to take the chance to let it ping. I have no idea what 93 would equate to over there (call me stupid -- I didn't know there was a difference worldwide in octane rating), but I'd go as high as you can and see if it solves the problem.
