<x-flowed>The alternator will charge at lower engine rpm, will last longer than a generator, and has a built-in voltage regulator so you can bypass the freakin' lousy mechanical unit -- I've never seen one component give so many people so much grief, carb'd or FI engines! Definitely more reliable and they're smaller and lighter than a generator with more power output to boot. Yes, it does have the cool factor but isn't a necessity. I feel that in the long run you get more bang for your buck and trouble/maintenance/worry free peace o' mind with an alternator...any alternator for that matter ;-)

it's probably not worth it, but the engine is already well on the dark side,
