I sold autoparts 15 years ago, and even then most FI filters were steel or aluminum cans. The only ones I recall not being steel cans were the low(er) pressure FI filters, like for the D-Jet and L-Jet. In fact, most fuel filters I saw were biggish cans, like the size of a Coke can. Many had threaded fittings that they would connect to- like the GM TBI-equipped models.
