Odd, I don't think I've ever seen any kind of boot on those wires. 
Those are 2 red wires, right?

One of those wires should join up with a brown wire and disappear 
thru a grommet in the firewall. That's the cable to the fuel pump. 
With the fuel pump disconnected, the engine should not start

UNLESS, it was flooded and disconnecting the pump let it clear itself 
out enough to start. If this is what happened, then it would run for 
just a few seconds at best, running on the fuel that was already 
there, and then die. If this is what you're experiencing, then we 
should look for reasons why your engine is running rich.

Possible reasons for FI running rich:

Bad voltage regulator or generator - both already checked

disconnected pressure sensor vacuum hose

early car (68-9) with "A" brain (replace with a B)

Possible spark plug or ignition problem making the car hard to 
start....

Anything here should familiar?
