already a close call with just my stock sender... I have to bend theconnecting 
tip down at a 90 deg. angle so the wire doesn't contact theunderside of the 
cleaner, which leaves about 1/4 in clearance atmost. >>

What Jim was talking about is this,

VW used this method of moving the sending unit wire away from the air 
cleaner. I hope this helps.
