Take out the 2 long through bolts, and remove the 1 screw from the rear housing. Using a plastic hammer, gently tap on the shaft to knock the armature out of the front (pulley end) housing. You will still have the rear housing on the armature. It should come off with gentle persuasion. Reassemble in the reverse order. Make sure the long bolts do not touch any of the internal wires when putting it back together. Don't forget to put the small screw in the rear housing. Reinstall the brushes. -- Russ Wolfe '71 FB AT '66 FB MT '64 T34 (not running) '65 T1 (not running) '05 KIA Sorento SUV russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
