I was thinking about putting a K&N style air cleaner in my car and wanted the list's option. I have stock carbs and I'm using the crappy little chrome and foam circular EMPI (i think) "air cleaners" that you get from discount VW places. they are worthless. I'd prefer to not use the stock air cleaner because it is huge and generally a pain to work with. it also won't work with my current wiring setup, things are in the way. I was thinking about using two of the short ends from the original style oil-bath air cleaner and the use a "T" fitting to route them to one inlet. then, that inlet would be connected to a conical K&N filter like the kind used on almost all newer/high performance water cooleds. see: http://www.7453217467431.com/products/productDetails.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=1567017&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=385387&affID=39901&bmUID=112442998017 1&tab=1 for an example. or, just go to pepboys.com and search for "Funnel Ram Air Filter." not the highest quality, I know, but for sure better than the useless ones I have on my car now. one of the benefits I think I'll get it is that I can add an inlet to the other end of the air cleaner that attaches to my stock air inlet from the fenders. so, I'll get air from the fenders and from the engine compartment. anyone think this will work? will it be a good solution? any suggestions on how to make a "T" fitting? I can get stuff for all the other aspects, but how to do a "T" intersection eludes me without just going and buying some heater vent pipe or something like it from a hardware store.
