There are differences in the details of different front beams assemblies. Your '72 has the latest version, so you'll only get that version from a very late 71 or later. This version has steering knuckles which take only the larger front calipers. Middle version runs from mid '68 to very late '71. It takes the smaller early calipers, but the steering knuckles take the larger inner wheel bearings, so they are a bit stiffer and stronger than the early ones. Early version runs from 66 thru mid '68 and takes the smaller early calipers and the smaller inner wheel bearings. If you move to a different version you will find that your old calipers or rotors or both will no longer fit. You could fix this by keeping your old steering knuckles, but this makes the job a lot harder, and you then have quite a few more things to take apart. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
