Yeah, sorry, but I agree that you need a new retainer plate.

I'm pretty sure that will clear somehow. I'll take a look at the microfilm to 
verify that they were available as separate parts.

I should have a retainer plate, but I don't think it will have the extra right 
angle bend your old one has. It should still work, however. Let me know if you 
want me to look.

That's surprising. I didn't think swing axle transmissions were ever sold that 
way, simply because it was necessary to adjust some of these things properly 
when you put them together. That's one of the really nice things about the IRS 
transmissions: It's a much smaller package when you pull it out of the car.
