Actually Jim, my NOS original VW one also has the hole offset (see photos attached to p-mail, Jim), but it looks about 2mm more offset than the original, so maybe it was done intentionally. My NOS one was bought in Sept 1993, so perhaps VW had modified it meanwhile. Curious though! Dave.
