[T3] Engine temp as a function of Advance curve.


I had a very interesting observation today!
Im running a 73 injection system with a 69 (A) pressure sensor on my 71
Square.  It runs fine, maybe a bit off on power and a bit rich but no
complaints until Adney passed me with an automatic on the way to Parma.  Im
now ready to convert it back to the 71 system.

The AG distributor (73) was shot so I replaced it this past week with the
correct 71 (AB) unit I rebuilt in anticipation of changing the rest of the
system over in the next month or so.  WELL...  PROFOUND differences!!

Car is lackluster on the low end now... but has good power above 2K or so...
but what astounded me was the fact that its now running 20F higher on the
highway!!  And even more interesting is that when I get off and come to a
stop the temps immediately drop 50F to about 150F when I come to a stop...
the SHOOT right back up to 210F when the RPM goes over 1500 or so under
load.  IT did this temperature scheme to a MUCH smaller degree with the AG
distributor on there.

I popped the engine lid when I got off the highway and I couldnt hear any
detonation, Im running 93 octane, so its not detonation... but BOY!  what a
difference the advance curve makes with engine temp.

Next thing to do is put a rebuilt AG back on there and change the whole
system over as a matched set at the same time later in the month... it may
be just fine with a matched set but without the temp gauge I wouldnt have
really had a clue as to what was going on except the oil pressure was about
2 PSI less.  Getting things set up properly is really critical for engine
longevity.
