Also, if you do not have the VW tool, what is the preferred way to load the spring plate/torsion bar so that it cann all be bolted back in place? >> Well, if you have the factory setting, you can use it for a reference (and starting place), then just raise the spring plate 1 notch up (or however many you want to go). If you have a protractor, you can use it to make sure both sides go the same distance up (worked for me), as the outer splines are 8*10', and the inners are 9* for each spline. This allows you to custom set the ride height, and allow for sag adjustments. : ) As for getting the spring plate bolts back on, I use a floor jack (if you have the body on), and longer bolts to get the plates in alignment. If you don't have the body in place, then you might have to get creative. I hope this helps.
