I've always heard that the acetic acid curing RTV is strictly not recommended
for applications to any kind of metal, because the acid will attack the metal.
The acetic acid type is the most common style. Acetic acid has a very
distinctive smell, so this stuff is easy to identify.

The alternative is the methanol style which is generally sold for electronic
use, where it won't attack circuit boards. I think it is very hard to find
unless you're a commercial user, and very expensive when you do find it.
