Re: Leak
<x-flowed>> I have never had one come undone (never had one in the engine compartment to start with). I have just heard the classic stories of people who had these, claimed they were properly clamped, and whose engines went up in a bonfire when something came loose and the nice gasoline pump started pumping gasoline all over the engine.
The "bad idea" theory comes more from Beetles where people locate the filter
after the fuel pump and between the carburetor. It puts a weight on the
carburetor intake tube, which is just a press-in fit. These are already
prone to pop out so it doesn't help to have a nice little weight on it to
accelerate the process.
It's a bad idea to put it after the pump anyway, why add more fittings on
the pressure side?
I haven't had any problems using no clamps on the intake side of the fuel
pump but I usually do it anyway.
