I have never had one come undone (never had one in the engine compartment to start with). I have just heard the classic stories of people who had these, claimed they were properly clamped, and whose engines went up in a bonfire when something came loose and the nice gasoline pump started pumping gasoline all over the engine. I was told many times that even clamped, this is a very very bad idea. Just my $.02, and I have seen many many filters in the engine compartment in my time, so perhaps it's not as big a problem as I thought. I just figured why tempt fate. It's just as easy to locate it somewhere else.
