It seems to me that if you've ever had one of these come undone then 
you're using the wrong size fuel hose. I just rearranged mine so that it 
was away from the oil cooler, and put a new one in while I was doing it. 
I couldn't get the hose off the filter AT ALL, and had to cut it off.

I still put clamps on it, just to soothe my paranoia, but I'm certain 
that they're not necessary. The filter is still in the engine bay, but 
it's right under the air cleaner, against the front tin, in the center.
