If the car has been lowered for a while and driven hard the whole front end could be shot. Id start by replacing the damper... just because its there doesnt mean it still works, and check the rubber bushing it mounts into on the steering arm. After that you need to go through the ball joints and front end peice by peice and replace what needs it. I can send you the Front end FAQ if youd like Keith > > I have a 1970 Squareback that I bought lowered. I never liked this, but I couldn't figure out how to undo it. Anyway, I took it to a local shop earlier this week and had it raised to factory height. All seemed good until I came home from work today. I hit a small bump in the road at about 30mph and the steering wheel started shuddering, so much so that I could not hold it in place (the car was still going straight fine, not pulling to either side). I pulled over, thinking that one of my tires was coming off, but all seemed okay. I started out again and the same thing happened on the next bump. I slowed down to maybe 5 mph and it stopped and I was able to accelerate again. As long as the road is smooth everything is fine. I just got home now and looked under the car a bit, the steering dampner is attached, there's nothing I can see falling off, but I don't really know what to look for. Has anyone experienced this problem before? Do you know what I should be looking! > for? Any advice would be appreciated. > > Thank you. > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org >
