The 2 things are probably unrelated.

The water leak is probably from rust thru at the rear of the front wheel well, 
but it could be water which actually came in via rust at the front of the rear 
wheel well and worked its way forward.

The fuel could be from a worn out gas cap gasket, but you should also check the 
overflow hose that attaches to the back side of the filler pipe. These are 
ALWAYS cracked. That part used to be NLA, but they've popped up again recently.
