Re: [T3] Insurance question

<x-flowed>Sorry about the accident.

Now, I do not live in CA, your situation depends if CA is a no fault state, meaning you/ your insurance pays for the damage no matter who's fault it is.

I live in OH which is not a No Fault state. I had the same thing happen to me, a large pickup hit me on the driver side of my 72 Fastback and did damage to the door and front pillar amounting to exactly $1800.

In my situation, I never even told my insurance company because it was the other guys fault. I dealt exclusively with his insurance, my insurance was not required to know. I called his insurance company and submitted a claim. They sent me a list of approved shops in my area for an estimate of repair. The shop estimated the cost of repair based on my ability to supply parts like the door etc. The figure was submitted to the insurance company and they sent me a check for the damage. Now, that $1800 was more than the fastback was worth, I had planned for a fight, by gathering ads for similar fastbacks, searching the Kelly Blue Book value etc., but in the end the never asked for anything to prove the worth.

Now your situation may not turn out as good as mine, so be prepared to fight for your car so that it is not totaled.

Make sure to check the laws for CA and don't let you being a newly licensed driver allow the insurance companies to walk all over you.

I hope this helps,
