California is a no fault state. So, it doesn't matter if it was your fault or not. Are you wondering if you should notify your insurance company? Has the person that hit you offerred to pay out of pocket so their rates don't go up? That would be the only way you would keep your car, usually if the insurance company has to pay you out, and only the blue book value, which is much less for vintage cars it would cause your car to be deemed a total loss. This would mean that once they pay you, the car becomes the property of the insurance agency. The only way to get it back is to go to the junk yard they sell it to and try and buy it back as a salvage title. This only devalues the car even more. In the future, you may look into an agreed value policy, which is when you and the company agree what the payout value of the car will be. It costs more though. I would think that you can get the door and fender used for much less than 1800... Depends if there is structural damage. Post pics and you can get a better estimate from people here. Where in CA are you? People here may have the parts you need.
