If driven conservatively they are. When abused the diff is the first thing to
go. Reverse gear is very well known to having a "glass jaw". I would consider
a stock T3 tranny to be stronger than a stock A3 tranny. Now, add a bolt kit
to the A3 diff -- VW uses pop-rivets :-( -- and it becomes better.
The A3 2.0L engines are GREAT! Over-built is a common description of that
engine.
