[T3] New engine

Howdy all.
    Hope you've had a good weekend. I got the new engine for my square
yesterday. The guy threw in a decent looking header, spare generator pulley
fan, and a good windshield. I paid a little more than I wanted to ($450),
but the motor is complete minus intake, dist., and muffler, and has good
heater boxes ( all four of the ones I've got are rusted out). It's supposed
to have been rebuilt and never started, but has been sitting for a few
years. I'm going to crack it open and inspect it before I install it.
    I have a question. The passenger side heater box has a small plate that
looks like it's blocking some kind of passage underneath. It points straight
up. Is this a part of some emissions control device? My other boxes don't
have this piece.
    Any Texans or others going to the Texas VW Classic in Fredericksburg at
the end of April? I'm trying to get this thing running in time to make it,
it's going to be close. Maybe there could be a convoy of T3's from the
Austin area out there.
