Actually, there ARE parts to wear out with the electronic ones... they thermally wear out. All the heating and cooling cycles eventually break the coil somewhere, and possibly the lead-in wires. The Pertronix and its competitors, will often fail within 2-4 years... Kettering systems (points) are more durable and wont leave you totally hung when they finally wear out. > I think you are missing the point. I like the electronic ones because > there are NO parts to wear out. Some of you may have all the free time > in the world to adjust or replace points but I don't. And in my case > this is going to be my daughters daily driver. I want it to be as > reliable as possible. Actually its not the technology... its how its implimented. To make money in such a small market the stuff has to be made cheap, and it often fails like the Pertronix do... and its not just one or 2, its probably about 2/3 of them out there that have died within 2 or 3 years if driven often. Just talk to the local shops that do enough work to see them often. Id quickly put a pickup in my distributor if there were a bolt in quality one out there... but there isnt. > Why this group is so against new technology is beyond me. Just because > one or two of you have not had good luck with something new or not stock > doesn't mean it is junk. I learned all about how bad the "popular items" were through JC WHitney... cost me a fortune... but that was before the internet.
