I have a friend that bought a 1970 Plymouth Super Bee with a 440-Six Pack new in 1970. He told me that he was constantly (every 500 miles or so) adjusting or rebuilding carbs, resetting the timing and changing spark plugs. While Chrysler has never been known for their high quality, this is probably somewhat indicative of the many marginally reliable automobiles (compared to what we are now used to) produced during a majority of the 20th century. In contrast, my grandfather had a 1970 Beetle that he bought new that had ~120,000 miles (and still running) on it when he sold it, and the only thing he ever did to it was add oil (never changed it or did a valve adjustment). Type 3 content: I would never think of treating mmmmmmmmy Fastback this way.
