You may be exactly right about the TPS. The way to test for this is to just disconnect the TPS connector and drive it that way. If the problem goes away then the TPS is the source of the problem. It's possible that you can clean it and fix it, but it's likely to need to be replaced sooner or later. This appears to be a known weakness with '73s, and the replacement TPSs are better made to avoid this wear. The actual problem is that the moving contacts wear until they can contact BOTH fuel enrichment stationary contacts at the same time. For some reason this turns the FI off. This contact is just intermittent, so the engine will just miss erratically, but always where the throttle spends a lot of time. Typically this is at about 55-65 mph. Replacement TPSs are expensive. A new one would be best here, but a good used one might help. I may have one, but you could also keep your eyes on ebay. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
