I never saw a vacuum port directly in the throttle plate, but the usual port on the left side of the left carb actually goes through a passage down to the throttle plate aperture on my late carbs, though I do have a set of earlier carbs that have 2 apertures- 1 in the throttle plate and one close to the narrowest part of the venturi, that both join up and come out a similar port on the side of the carb.
