I am thinking of building a "SuperMat" I call it. I want to incorporate sound absorption, heat shield and surface protection into a single mat. I was thinking of buying an aftermarket rubber mat, then using adhesive to join it with a sound absorber/ barrier from McMaster-Carr. The material I'm looking at is 1.30" thick. (How thick was the stock dampening material?) I didn't want to adhere the sound dampener directly to the rear deck because the stock dampening material I tore out of the car was wet, and disintegrated when I pulled it out. I've fixed all my leaks now, but if leaks recur, I want the flexibility inspect down to the bare metal, without having to remove the glued dampening material. Any issues with this?
