That's what I generally think of as the most basic of the 4 type 3 models. This impression was probably partly due to a very nice light blue late model Notch I saw parked along the street in La Jolla, CA in '73-'74. That was probably the only notch I had ever seen by that time, and when I came across the "Basic Compact" name later on, I guessed that this must have been what VWoA was selling under that name.
