Hi all, As some of you may know, I wired my car from scratch using the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual, plus some borrowed bits from the 12V Type 34 wiring diagram. Everything works extremely well and seems to give no problems whatsoever, except for one thing. The ignition switch that I am using doesn't fit properly into the steering column. It is not a huge problem, except that one of the electrical terminals shorts out on some metal under the dash. I have fixed the problem with insulating tape, but would like to fix it properly. I do have a proper 68-69 ignition switch, although I haven't tested it to see if it works. The problem is that it has one less terminal than the late switch that I am using. The missing terminal is "X", which goes to the X terminal on my light switch. Its function is to make sure that the lights only work when the car is running. When the ignition is off, or when you crank the starter, the lights don't work. I know this is not a feature of a '69 car, but I like it and want to keep it. The question is: Is there any reason that I should not connect the X terminal on the light switch to the "15" terminal on the '68-'69 ignition switch? In other words, split the "15" terminal on the ignition switch so that it is connected both to the "15" wire and the "X" wire. This way, the lights would stay on if I were to try to start the engine with the lights switched on, which might run down the battery, but they would still go off when I turn the ignition off. If this is a problem, how can I use the '68-'69 ignition switch with my existing, later, set-up?
