I suspect that almost everyone would agree with this, except that it's really not just "speed" equipment, it's aftermarket suppliers for declining markets like air-cooled VWs. When they were selling millions of units a year there was enough competition in the marketplace that they had to make good parts or lose their share of a major market. Now, the market is smaller and most suppliers have abandoned it to make aftermarket parts for Honda instead, so that leaves us with the least competitive suppliers, who have no pressure on them to supply top quality parts any more. It's just a matter of volume. The major suppliers have absolutely no interest in tooling up to make 1000 of anything when they could be making 1,000,000 of something else. The same problem applies to camshafts, forged crankshafts, colored fender beading, and rubber doorseals. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
