I was pretty thorough about checking them, and none of them were tightening. I think the lash had been checked about 600 miles prior, on it's oil change day. I would have watched it more, and maybe not used it on the highway if I had known it was getting ready to go. At the time I was driving about 75 miles a day in it, with about 65 of those at freeway speeds ( 70 to 75 mph to keep from getting run over). It was one of those deals where the engines had unkown mileage, ran very well, and were being run on low octane fuel at highway speeds. At those speeds the valve doesn't get a chance to cool, so it starts to warp then failure happens when you least expect it. I used the results more as a learning experience, and started using better quality fuel in it, with much better results. I hope this helps.
