See if the problem disappears. If so, reconnect the switch, and see if the problem comes back. If it does, replace and adjust the switch. Hunting at idle is usually caused by the idle speed set too high, but you may have a different problem since you say it dies occasionally. I'd really start here by making sure that the spark plugs are good and the spark plug connectors are too.
