I'm not entirely sure what you're asking here, but I don't think it's practical 
to change a 69 from MT to AT. There's just too much that's different and it's a 
LOT more than just swapping in an AT and the shift lever.

The pan and tunnel are different.
There are some changes you would need to make to the engine.
The rear subframe may be different.

I suspect you would be MUCH better off watching for an available AT type 3. 
They're out there.

OTOH, my wife can drive a stick, and if she can I think almost anyone can.

The AC is not a good idea on these cars. It's a poorly thought out add-on which 
puts a lot more heat stress on the engine. Type 3s with AC tend to have shorter 
engine lifetimes than those without.
