I haven't personally worked with the 009, but lots of knowledgable people who have warn that it is not the good choice that it was once considered to be. The best choice is an early type 3 FI distributor, the 311...L. These are pretty easy to find, but may require rebuilding to get working right. There are a couple of "pointless" ignition options, most of which work just fine with the L distributor, but you have to make sure you get the right version to fit in the limited space. I personally don't care for the one that requires the special rotor. Personally, I'm happy with the stock points setup, although I also like the CDI ignitions that use the points but install outside the distributor. The points work just fine as long as the dist cam is in good shape. They often need help, however, to remove the wear from years of use. This wear grinds away the rubbing block on the points and makes the dwell change quickly. I rebuild these distributors for $55 including return postage. Major parts, if needed, are extra. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
