Okay, here's what Mercedes says:

J, K, and JK = Identification letter for height and shape of rim flange

H, H2 = Rim profile with hump shoulder on outer and inner sides.

They also give designations of their rims such as: 
		5-1/2J x 15 H 2

If we interpret "rim flange" to mean the outer edge of the rim that stands up 
at right angles to the rest of the rim (the part the bead pushes out against) 
then this all seems pretty consistent.

I think I have to take the blame for much of this confusion, because I've been 
telling people for years that the "j" referred to the humps. I think it is 
clear now that I was wrong.
