You haven't told us what kind of engine you have, FI or carbs, but both
include
some provision for reducing the idle after the engine warms up. If the idle
is
set with the engine cold, then it will be too slow when warm and the engine
is
likely to die.

In both cases, the idle speed must be set with the engine fully warmed up.
