You can remove the sender without worrying about breaking it, as long as you are reasonably careful with the sender and don't try to take it apart. People get in trouble when they take it apart and then assume that it "really can't be all THAT fragile, oops!" Yes, don't overtighten the bolts that hold it down, as you'll just bend the flange. Snug is fine. The copper clip that Russ mentioned is something that I've only seen in the older manuals; it must have been discontinued by '68. It's not necessary; at some point someone figured out that the bolts did a fine job of grounding the sensor body to the tank. But keep in mind that the tank itself must still be well grounded. I think rusty tank bolts could actually be responsible for a number of the problems we see with the gas gauges. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
